Got told my mortar joints looked like a drunk did them
A guy pulled me aside after a job in Denver back in 2018 and said my joints were uneven and too wet. I was 3 years in and thought I had it figured out. He showed me how to pack the mortar tighter and strike it at the right time, not when it felt right. After that, I started using a jointer tool instead of just my finger, and it made a huge difference. Has anyone else had a random stranger on a site give them advice that actually stuck?

Man that's a solid story and it really hits on something bigger I've noticed. People are so scared to give feedback these days cause they don't wanna come off rude or get told off. But the old heads on job sites just say it how it is and you can either get butthurt or level up. Same thing happens at the hardware store or the auto parts shop too. Some random dude will walk by and just drop a piece of advice that saves you hours. I think society lost that a little bit where everyone's too polite to actually help. You got lucky that guy didn't just walk past shaking his head like most people do.

Wait people actually walk past shaking their heads instead of saying something? @betty_fisher5 I thought that was just a movie thing. The old heads at my local lumber yard will yell across the aisle at you if you're doing something dumb.
