Finished painting the trim on my house and the can said it covered 400 square feet.

I was sure I'd need a second gallon, but it did the whole thing with a little left over. Has anyone else found those coverage estimates to be surprisingly accurate?

Paint labels are usually optimistic but not completely made up. Seems like you got lucky with a smooth surface and even application. Honest results like that are pretty rare in my experience.

Are you sure you measured your trim right? Those numbers are always way off for me. I've never had a can of paint cover what it says it will. It probably depends on the surface and how thick you put it on. I always end up buying extra because I don't trust the label at all.

That's just how product labels work these days, always promising the best case scenario. You see it with everything from paint coverage to battery life on gadgets. It's safer to assume you'll need more than they say.
