Client said my paver design looked 'too busy' and it bothers me weeks later

I spent like 3 days laying out a circular herringbone pattern for a backyard patio in Austin last month. The lady walks out, takes one look, and goes "it looks like a kaleidoscope threw up on my yard." No joke, those were her exact words after I already had half the stones cut and set. She made me rip it out and do a simple running bond instead. Has anyone else had a client just completely trash a design you put real work into?

Read an article in Landscape Architect Magazine last month about how circular herringbone patterns create this optical vibration thing when light hits the stones from different angles. Makes sense why it looked "busy" to her, but man, three days of work down the drain because she didn't speak up sooner. You'd think clients would say something during the design review phase, not when half the patio is set in mortar.

Did she at least offer to pay for the extra labor?
