Appreciation post: That 6 month old cedar fence in my backyard after the rainy season

I just noticed how the gray patina settled in evenly across all the boards, and it hit me that skipping the sealant and letting it weather naturally was the right call, has anyone else had their wood age way better than expected?

I used to be all about sealing everything but you've totally changed my mind here.

Agree with @nathang67 on this one. I went through the same transformation myself after realizing that over-sealing actually traps moisture and leads to rot in the long run. Now I only seal end cuts and let the natural grain breathe on the rest of the board.
