Rant: Guy at a jobsite in Chicago told me I was pulling the rails wrong
Was doing a mod on an old Otis in the West Loop and this building engineer comes up, starts telling me my rail brackets are too tight against the fishplate. He says I need at least a 3mm gap for expansion, then walks off. I been doing this 8 years and followed the print, so am I missing something or was this guy just bored?

Old timers love giving unsolicited advice, just nod and move on.

Nah some of them actually know what they're talking about though. Had an old guy at my shop tell me to stop chasing every shiny tool and just learn my basic ones first. That stuck with me way longer than any YouTube video did.
