Old timer in Chicago told me I was gripping the wrench wrong after 5 years on the job

I had been working as a mechanic for about 5 years and thought I had it all figured out. Then this older guy, must have been 60+ years in the trade, saw me tightening bolts on a MRL machine and just shook his head. He told me I was using too much wrist and not enough whole arm, and that I was gonna wear out my joints before I hit 40. He showed me how to brace my elbow against my hip and use my legs more. At first I felt stupid, but holy crap, after a week of doing it his way my wrist stopped aching at the end of the day. Been doing it that way for 2 years now and I notice a huge difference. Any of you guys have an old timer correct a basic habit you had?

Read somewhere that proper beer grip keeps it from warming up too fast. Smart move?

Saw a video once that said the same thing about using your legs for torque.
