Had a door operator board fry on a call yesterday

It was in a 15 year old office building, just started throwing random codes. I swapped it out with a spare from the van, but now I'm wondering if there's a common power surge issue with that model. Anyone else seen a lot of these MCE-300 boards go bad lately?

Patricia's point about transformer taps is spot on, but a wrong tap usually fries a board much faster than a week, like within hours. I've seen that happen when someone set it to 240V on a 120V line. Amy's loose ground idea is a good one too, that can cause slow damage. For random codes on an older board, I'd lean more towards bad capacitors on the board itself, especially after 15 years. The power supply might be fine, but those little caps dry out and make the whole thing act crazy.

Check the transformer output first. Seen a few where the taps were wrong, sent too much voltage to the board. Fried it in a week.

Ever check the ground connection on those? I had one last month where the ground lug on the board was loose, caused all sorts of weird faults before it finally cooked itself. Might be worth a look before you blame the power supply.
