The week I fixed a 1978 Atari 2600 for a kid in my town
A father brought it in, saying his son found it at a yard sale but it just showed a black screen. I opened it up and the main board was covered in a thick layer of dust and some old soda spill. After three hours of cleaning with isopropyl alcohol and checking each trace with my multimeter, I found a single broken solder joint on the voltage regulator. The moment I fixed it and that rainbow startup screen appeared, the kid's face lit up. Has anyone else had a repair that felt like bringing a piece of history back to life?

It's just an old game console, not the Mona Lisa.

Seriously though, why do people get so worked up about this stuff? It's plastic and wires that play games. The way some folks talk, you'd think it was a holy relic. I get having fond memories, but the price and the drama just seem over the top. It's okay to like a thing without making it your whole personality.
