Question about a weird week of repairs

Last week was strange because I had three different people bring in vintage cassette decks with the exact same belt-drive issue. It felt like a weird trend, especially since I hadn't seen one in months before that. Has anyone else noticed specific items coming in waves like that?

Funny how things seem to travel in packs like that. It reminds me of seeing the same car model everywhere right after you buy one. My guess is it's some kind of shared memory trigger, like a popular show mentioning cassettes or a YouTube video going around. Once one person digs theirs out and finds it broken, they tell a friend who checks theirs too. Suddenly, everyone with that same old gadget remembers it exists at the same time.

That shared memory trigger idea is interesting, but I don't buy it. It feels too neat. More likely it's just random chance that gets noticed because our brains love patterns. We ignore all the times our old stuff sits quietly for years, but the one time a few people mention it, we think it's a wave. It's just coincidence.
