Just realized I've been reaching for the hot air station way more than the soldering iron lately

I had to fix a kid's tablet last week, the kind with the screen glued to the frame. The choice was clear: try to pry it open with tools and risk cracking the glass, or use the hot air station to soften the adhesive all the way around. I went with the hot air, set it to 85 degrees Celsius, and went slow in a circle. It took about 10 minutes, but the whole assembly came apart clean with a suction cup, no damage at all. A few years back, I would have just gone at it with a spudger and hope. Now, for anything with modern adhesives, the controlled heat feels like the only safe way. It's made me rethink my whole bench setup. What's a repair that made you switch up your main tool for good?

Modern stuff demands the right tool, period.

Hold on, I gotta disagree. Sometimes the best tool is the one you already know how to use. I've seen amazing art made with just a basic pencil, and killer music from old, simple gear. Getting obsessed with having the perfect new software or gadget can actually stop you from making anything at all.
