Fixed a dead microwave with a 20 cent part from a hobby store

My neighbor's microwave just stopped heating one day. No sparks or smoke nothing. I figured it was the high voltage diode so I popped it out and tested it with my multimeter. Sure enough it was open so I ran down to the local electronics shop and grabbed a new one for 20 cents. Soldered it in and the thing heats like new again. Has anyone else found dirt cheap fixes that saved someone from buying a whole new appliance?

Did I short out my multimeter testing that exact same part? Yes. Did I fix it anyway? Also yes.

Yeah that's exactly what I did with my mom's microwave last year. Same deal, dead diode, cost me a quarter at the local shop. People throw away perfectly good appliances over this stuff.
