Crossed 500 repaired game consoles and it made me question my whole process
I logged my 500th fixed console, a PS4 with a bad HDMI port, and saw that over 300 of them were the same three common failures. One side says I should just stock those specific parts and streamline, while the other side argues that focusing on the common stuff makes you miss the weird, interesting fixes that keep the job fresh. Where do you all fall on specializing versus staying a generalist for repairs?

Ever think about setting up two separate workstations? I keep a main bench stocked for the common HDMI and disc drive swaps, but I have a second smaller spot for the weird one-off jobs. That way the bread and butter repairs stay fast, but I still get to solve the oddball problems that pop up.

Heard about a buddy who tried that. Said his main bench got messy with one weird laptop and he lost a whole day. Now he keeps the oddball stuff on a separate table, way less stress.
