Warning: Old knob and tube wiring I found in a 1920s house last week still had active power to half the second floor

Pulling that ratty cloth wiring out and replacing it with modern Romex felt way safer than the original setup ever was, but has anyone run into hidden hazards with legacy systems that weren't obvious on the inspection?

Worst I found was live knob and tube wrapped in old asbestos tape, but hey, nobody said DIY was good for your health.

Yeah it's wild how half the stuff built before 1980 was basically a death trap.
