Pulled wire with a poly rope for years, finally tried a mule tape on a 200ft run last week

I've been using the same stiff poly rope for pulling wire through conduit since I started with my old boss back in 2017. It always worked fine for short runs under 50 feet, but last week I had a 200ft pull of 4/0 copper through 3 inch EMT at a warehouse near Nashville. That poly rope kept binding up on every 90 degree bend, and I spent 45 minutes fighting it. A journeyman on site handed me a roll of mule tape from his truck and said just try it. The mule tape rode smooth through every bend, no snagging, and the whole pull was done in under 10 minutes. It's way flatter and tougher than my old rope, and it doesn't stretch under tension like poly does. Has anyone else made the switch and noticed a big difference on long or complex pulls?

Nah, poly rope has more grip when you need it, @garcia.miles just got lucky.

Poly rope hates tight bends on long pulls, everyone knows that. Mule tape is flat and slides way better because it doesn't bunch up in the corners. Sounds like your old boss just never wanted to buy the good stuff. 45 minutes of fighting is 35 minutes too long for any pull. Glad you finally got shown the light.

Mule tape changed my whole game too, flat rules for long pulls.
