Old foreman told me I was over-torquing lugs and it changed my whole approach

I used to really crank down on breaker lugs until a foreman on a job in Denver pulled me aside and said I was risking broken conductors. He showed me his torque screwdriver set and said most guys are out by 20% or more without a calibrated tool. Now I use a torque wrench on every big panel and I swear I get fewer callbacks. Has anyone else had an old timer call them out on something they thought was fine?

Over-torquing is rarely the real problem on residential stuff anyway.

Gotta gently push back on that one, jade. Over-torquing can definitely snap a neutral or melt a terminal on a residential main lug, I've seen it happen twice at final inspections.
