Spent $400 on a new water heater install last month - had to rip it out 3 days later

The unit was fine but my dumb ass forgot to check the gas line pressure. Plumber buddy pointed it out after I saw the pilot light kept dying and now I always test gas pressure before hooking anything up. Anyone else make a rookie mistake on something simple like that?

Did you hear that some new water heaters need a special gas regulator now?

Did your buddy charge you a case of beer for that advice or did he make you feel dumb for free? I once installed a gas dryer and spent two hours fighting with the flame sensor before I realized I forgot to open the main valve. Felt like a real genius standing there in the dark with a flashlight and a half-baked plan. At least you caught it before something exploded, right?
