Got shown up by a 19 year old at an estate sale in Tucson last month

I was picking through a box of old tools when this kid pulled out a complete set of vintage Stanley planes and priced them at $40 total. He saw the markings and knew exactly what they were before I even got a chance to look. Has anyone else run into younger resellers who put your knowledge to shame?

Those estate sale kids in Tucson have a different angle on things. I watched a 22 year old girl outbid a whole room of antique dealers on a set of Depression glass once because she pulled up sold listings on her phone in real time. It wasn't luck, she was using data right there on the spot. These younger folks grew up with instant access to pricing history and collector forums, so they can spot a rare marking or a model number way faster than someone like me who learned by flipping through old price guides. Maybe instead of feeling shown up, we should admit they just have better tools for the job these days.

Yeah, you hit it right, the internet basically leveled the playing field for anyone with a phone.
