Working on a job in Phoenix, the lead guy had us cut all our sheets a half inch short on every wall.
He said it stops the sheets from buckling when the framing shifts in the heat, which happens a lot out there. I've always been taught to cut tight, so this felt wrong, but we had zero callbacks on that house. Do you guys leave a gap like that in really dry climates, or is that asking for trouble?

Honestly, I would've said that gap was a bad idea too. But seeing it work for @robert_bennett29 makes me think it's smart for that crazy heat. Guess you really do learn something new on every job.

Yeah, the "learn something new on every job" part is so true. I would have bet money that gap was going to cause a problem later. Seeing the results from @robert_bennett29 is pretty convincing proof though. It forces you to admit the old way isn't always the only way, especially with extreme conditions like that heat. Sometimes the field test is the only real answer you get.
