Warning: Don't use hot mud for your first coat on a big ceiling job

I tried using 20-minute hot mud as a base coat on a 2,000 square foot warehouse ceiling last month in Phoenix. Thought it would save time since it sets quick, but by the time I got halfway across the room the first batch was already hard. Had to scrape off 80 bucks of wasted material and redo it with regular compound. Learned my lesson - hot mud is for small patches, not production work. Anyone else make this mistake or am I the only one?

Pouring melted plastic bags would've been a better first coat than my hot mud disaster.

Hot mud isn't actually meant for first coats at all.
