Unpopular opinion: I used a full sheet of 5/8 on a ceiling by myself and it wasn't a disaster
Everyone at the supply house said I was crazy to try hanging a full 12-foot sheet of 5/8 on a 9-foot ceiling alone. I used a homemade deadman prop from a 2x4 and a scrap of plywood... and it went up smooth. The key was getting the prop exactly 1/4 inch taller than the wall height. Now I don't wait around for a helper on every big job. What's the biggest sheet you guys have managed solo?

Wow, that's some serious confidence! I once tried a similar trick with a sheet of 3/4 MDF for a built-in and nearly threw my back out. Your prop idea is definitely smarter than my stubbornness.

Honestly, that deadman prop trick is a total game changer for solo work.

Had a buddy try that with a heavy door frame. He used a ratchet strap hooked to his truck bumper. Worked great until the strap snapped. Sent a two by four flying through his shed wall. Sometimes the simple way is the safest.
