Shoutout to the old guy at the Tacoma supply house who saved my bacon

I was picking up mud for a job last month and this retired installer, Frank, saw me loading up a bunch of 90-minute hot mud. He just shook his head and asked if I was doing a whole house. I said yeah, a big new build. He told me flat out, 'Kid, you're making it hard on yourself. That stuff sets up too fast for big areas. Use the 45-minute for your first two coats, save the hot stuff just for the final touch-ups.' I tried it on the next place, a four-bedroom in Puyallup, and wow. I wasn't fighting the clock as much, the joints were way smoother, and I actually finished faster. Has anyone else had a game changer tip like that from an old timer?

Yeah, always thin your paint with a little water first, right?

Like how we rush cooking without reading recipes.
