Pro tip: Spend $15 on a drywall saw guide, not $70 on a fancy cutting tool
I bought that fancy automatic drywall cutter that everyone raves about for like $70. Used it twice and the blade jammed up on me. Went back to basics and grabbed a simple drywall saw guide from Home Depot for $15. It's just a plastic corner piece with measurement marks, but it works way better for me. The auto cutter is sitting in my truck now collecting dust. Anyone else find the expensive tools aren't always worth it?

So what's the actual failure point on that auto cutter? The blade jamming makes me think maybe it just can't handle thicker drywall or something. Could be a design flaw they don't mention in the reviews.

oh i gotta disagree a little bit with you @diana_bell74. ive been using one of these for about 8 months now and the blade jamming is usually from trying to cut too fast or not lubing the blade right. the thicker drywall thing might be true for some cheap models but the better ones handle 5/8 just fine if you take it slow.
most people that complain about jamming are trying to race through the cut, you gotta let the blade do the work. the real design flaw i see is the dust collection being garbage, not the blade. my buddy had one seize up on him but he was cutting like a madman. so yeah i think it's more user error than a bad design.
