Vent: I was running my cutterhead way too slow for the whole season on the Columbia
Honestly, I thought a slower speed meant better control and less wear. Then I saw a guy on the next barge over, the 'River King', moving through the same clay twice as fast with a cleaner cut. He told me his foreman swears by 22 rpm for that material, not the 15 I was stuck on. Anyone else have a specific speed they use for heavy river clay?

Is it really that big a deal? In my experience, a few rpm either way doesn't make or break a job. You still got the work done, right?

It's the same attitude that leads to bigger mistakes.

I used to think "a few rpm either way" was fine until I saw a part get ruined.
