Passed by the old dredging site on the Mobile River last week and it looked totally different.
They've got a new suction dredge working there now, all computer screens and joysticks in the cab, nothing like the old levers and cables I learned on. It just made me think about how much the feel of the job has changed, even if the basic work is the same. Anyone who's been around a while ever miss the old gear, or is it all just progress?

My buddy in construction says new cranes feel like playing a video game now.

No way a crane feels like a video game. So you're telling me a guy is sitting in a cab with a joystick and a screen moving steel beams around like he's playing Minecraft? That's wild. I saw one of those new tower cranes last month and the operator was using a tablet to control the thing. No levers, no gears, just tapping a screen to lift tons of concrete. It's gotta be weird not feeling the weight through your hands or hearing the engine strain. Seems dangerous honestly if the tech glitches out mid-lift.

Ever feel like the new gear just doesn't give you the same sense of what's happening under the water?
