Had to pick between my usual bucket and a Texas-clamshell yesterday on the Mississippi

Ngl, I was doing a maintenance dig near Baton Rouge and my standard 8-yard bucket just wasn't cutting it in that packed sand. I swapped to a 6-yard clamshell with the sharpened teeth and finished the job in half the time. Has anyone else found a specific bucket type that saves their butt in tough ground conditions?

Ran into the same problem down near the Gulf last fall.

I heard from a guy on a fishing forum that the red tide off the Texas coast was worse last September than it's been in years. He said the algae bloom stretched for miles and killed a bunch of fish, including some big bull reds. The state even closed some beaches for a few days because of the airborne toxins. Makes me wonder if that's what you saw down near the Gulf or if it was something else. Did it smell really bad where you were?
