Got called out for my sluice box angle on a job in Galveston

An old timer on the crew said, 'Kid, you're losing half your gold with that setup,' and showed me how to adjust for the specific sediment flow. I changed from my usual 8 degree pitch to a 12 degree and the recovery rate jumped right away. What's the biggest piece of advice someone gave you that fixed a basic mistake?

Man, that's the best kind of lesson right there. It's wild how one small change from someone who's been there can make all the difference. Those old guys have seen everything and they usually know their stuff. Really glad you listened and it paid off right away.

Totally get what you mean, ryan_smith37. Reminds me of when I was trying to fix my lawnmower and was about to buy a whole new carburetor. My neighbor, who's like seventy, just leaned over the fence and told me to clean the one tiny jet with a wire. I felt dumb, but it started right up. It's crazy how the simplest fix is always the one you miss, and it usually comes from someone who's already made all the mistakes for you.
