Cleaning out the gear locker and found my first hard hat from training...
It's scuffed up and faded from my first season on the river... The new gear is so much safer, but it doesn't have the same character.

Totally get that. New gear is bright and clean, but it feels like putting on a costume. That beat up old helmet has the real story in every scratch, like that deep gouge from the low branch on the Snake River section. The new stuff just can't fake that history. You keeping it as a garage trophy or what?

Totally, @keving93. That helmet is officially retired, like it earned a pension. I'm not letting that thing near my head again, but yeah, it's gonna watch over the workbench from now on. Every scratch is a story you can't buy.
