Bought a cheap drafting lamp and it's been a game changer for late nights
I was working on a set of shop drawings for a big metal building last month, and my old desk lamp just wasn't cutting it... the shadows were awful on my vellum. I saw a drafting lamp online for about $75 and figured it was worth a shot. It's got this long arm and a big, flat shade that spreads light evenly across the whole table. The first night I used it, I didn't get that eye strain headache I usually do after a few hours. It sounds small, but it makes a huge difference when you're trying to spot a tiny dimension error at 11 PM. Has anyone else found a specific piece of gear that just made the long hours a bit easier to handle?

Actually, those are usually called task lamps now (drafting lamps are the old-school heavy ones). The even light is the real key though, it stops your eyes from working so hard. Good lighting is one of those boring upgrades that pays off every single day.

Remember when my buddy tried to work under a single dim bulb? He got headaches for a week before he finally got a proper lamp.

Yeah, the "even light" part is huge. I used to have a lamp that cast this harsh shadow right across my desk, and my eyes would get so tired trying to adjust. Switching to one with a wider, softer shade made reading way easier, no more squinting.
