Warning: My old kitchen tile was a total pain to remove until I tried a different tool
Three years ago in my first apartment, I started chipping away at the ugly backsplash with a hammer and chisel, which took forever and made a huge mess. Last week, I finally rented a rotary hammer drill for $40 from the local hardware store and the whole thing was gone in an afternoon. Has anyone else found a tool that completely changed a job for them?

Renting tools is almost always worth it for one big job. @webb.xena nailed it with the demo saw idea, that thing makes quick work of stuff a hammer and chisel would punish you for.

Man, I was totally in the "just use a pry bar and elbow grease" camp for years. Renting a power tool felt like cheating or a waste of money. Then I had to pull up a bunch of old laminate flooring and a friend lent me an oscillating multi-tool. It cut through the trim and stubborn spots like butter. Completely changed how I look at DIY now. The right tool doesn't just make it faster, it makes the whole job less miserable.
