Vent: Tried painting my kitchen cabinets with a roller and it was a total disaster

Used a cheap foam roller from Home Depot and ended up with a texture like an ORANGE PEEL on every single door. Did anyone else learn the hard way that you NEED a sprayer or HVLP for cabinet paint?

Actually you can get a really smooth finish with rollers if you use the right kind (like a microfiber mini roller) and thin the paint out a bit with Floetrol. I've painted probably a dozen cabinet sets with just a roller and a good brush for the details, never touched a sprayer.

I saw a pro painter on YouTube swear by adding a tiny bit of water to the paint instead of Floetrol for cabinets. He said it helps the paint level out just as good but doesn't mess with the sheen. Maybe it's just me but I've always been too scared to try rollers on cabinets since I usually just brush everything on. That microf roller tip sounds promising though. I might give it a shot on a test board first before I commit to a whole set.
