Vent: My paint sprayer idea for the garage door was a total mess

I thought using my old airless sprayer on the garage door would be faster than rolling. It wasn't. The wind caught the overspray and put a fine white mist on my car, the neighbor's fence, and a shrub. Took me three hours to clean everything with a pressure washer. Anyone have a better method for a smooth finish on a big metal surface?

My uncle's body shop taught me to use a cheap garden sprayer for small jobs. You thin the paint a bit, use a fine tip, and the low pressure gives you way more control. Did my shed door that way and got a factory finish with zero overspray.

Is it really that big of a deal? A little overspray happens to everyone and it washed off. Next time just check the weather first.
