The one tool I never knew I needed until last weekend
I was patching a hole in my drywall last Saturday and finally got fed up with my cheap sanding block. Picked up a 3M sanding sponge with the fine grit on one side and medium on the other for like 4 bucks at Home Depot. It actually cut my sanding time in half and left way less dust. Anyone else got a random tool that made a specific job way easier?

My sanding "technique" was just me huffing drywall dust like an idiot.

Three days after my bathroom project I coughed up a chunk of gypsum the size of a nickel. My wife took a picture of it in my hand and sent it to her sister with the caption "this is what happens when your husband has zero common sense." Now I wear a respirator for everything including grilling burgers.
