Spent 6 hours trying to level a floating shelf that was off by a quarter inch. The wall was not straight.

Ugh, don't you just hate when the wall itself is the problem? That's the worst.

Yeah that's the worst. Had a wall like that once, ended up using a special primer to seal it first. Made all the difference.

Actually a quarter inch is NOTHING in old houses. That's basically a perfect wall. You just needed to shim the bracket a tiny bit, not fight it for six hours. Sometimes the problem is expecting factory level perfection from a hand built structure. Walls are supposed to have character.
