Spackle trick I wish I knew before redoing my dining room ceiling in Memphis

For years I sanded every patch smooth, but a contractor buddy told me to just dampen my finger and wipe the spackle flat while it's wet. Saved me like 45 minutes on one ceiling patch, has anyone else tried this?

Oh man, I gotta disagree a bit here. That wet finger trick leaves little ridges for me, especially on bigger patches. I'd rather just sand it smooth once and be done, feels cleaner in the long run.

@holly_flores79 See, I get that but the wet finger trick has always worked fine for me if I use just barely enough moisture. If you push too hard or use too much water, yeah it'll leave marks. But a light touch and it's smooth as anything once it's dry.
