Saw a really smart kitchen storage fix at a friend's place in Austin
I was over at my buddy's house last weekend and noticed he had these custom pull-out shelves in his lower kitchen cabinets. He said he built them himself using just some plywood, drawer slides, and a basic circular saw. The whole project cost him about $80 and took a Saturday afternoon. It made getting to pots and pans in the back so much easier than digging around. I'm thinking of trying it in my own kitchen, but I'm worried about getting the measurements right for the slides. Has anyone else built something like this and have tips on fitting them into old cabinets?

Getting the slides right is the hardest part. I messed up my first try by not accounting for the cabinet door hinges. Measure the inside width, subtract an eighth of an inch for wiggle room, and double check the slide length. A test fit with just the slides before you attach the shelves saves a huge headache later.

Always thought that was overkill, but you're totally right.
