Rant: Tried to save money painting my own rental and it was a nightmare week

Last Tuesday I was so proud of myself. Grabbed a $20 gallon of Behr from the Home Depot in Phoenix and figured I'd do my whole living room in a day. Man, I was wrong. That cheap paint was like water. Had to do 4 coats and it still looked trash. Spent the whole week redoing it with Behr Marquee at $45 a gallon after my landlord's painter buddy walked through and laughed. One coat did the job. Anyone else learn the hard way that cheap paint costs more in the end?

Read somewhere that cheap paint has less titanium dioxide which is what gives it coverage. Makes sense now after fighting with that watery stuff for days. The Behr Marquee is pricey but I used it in my last place and it actually saved me time and frustration. Have you tried the ceiling paint from the same line or just stuck with the walls?

Oh man, I totally feel you on that cheap paint struggle. I tried one of those bargain brands once for a bedroom and it took like four coats just to cover the primer. Such a waste of time. I ended up switching to the Behr ceiling paint actually. It's not as thick as the Marquee but it did the job in two coats with hardly any splatter, which is a big deal for me since I hate taping off everything. Definitely worth spending a bit more upfront to save your sanity later.
