PSA: I read that a gallon of paint only covers about 350 square feet on rough surfaces, not the 400 they say on the can.

I was painting my old brick patio wall last weekend and ran out of paint way too fast. I looked it up and found a fact sheet from a paint supplier online. It said textured surfaces like stucco or rough brick can cut coverage by over 10 percent because they soak up more. My wall was about 300 square feet and I needed almost a full gallon, which matched what I read. Has anyone else had to buy extra paint for a textured outdoor project? What did you do to estimate it better?

You only needed almost a full gallon for 300 square feet? That math is brutal. I painted a cinder block wall once and it drank paint like it was dying of thirst. I went back to the store twice. The cans should really have a warning label for anything rougher than drywall.

But @thomas_johnson35, cinder block is a known paint killer, so that's kind of on you for not expecting it.
