Pro tip: Found out I was hanging drywall upside down for 3 years
My buddy who does commercial framing came over last week and watched me put up a sheet. He cracked up and showed me the tapered edge is supposed to face down, not up. I always thought the tapered edge went at the ceiling because it looked cleaner. The way he explained it made total sense, the mud fills the gap better for joining sheets. Anyone else have a basic construction trick they learned way too late?

Heard a guy at the hardware store say some folks hang drywall both ways for years just out of habit. The tapered edge trick blew my mind too when I finally got it, saves a ton of sanding and mud work.

The real trick nobody talks about is making sure your tapered edges actually line up with the studs or you just create a bigger headache later. Mismatched seams can throw off your whole corner bead game too.
