My bathroom vanity faucet started leaking from the base after I installed it just two weeks ago.

I'm debating whether to pull the whole thing out to check the gasket (which is a huge pain) or just try tightening the mounting nuts from below the sink first, so what would you guys do in this situation?

Tighten the nuts? I usually just wing it.
