Just realized my dad was right about not skipping primer on drywall patches

He told me six years ago to always prime before painting patches, and I ignored it until last month when three patches in my hallway peeled off after one coat of paint, so now I'm redoing all of them with primer first, anyone else learn this the hard way?

My buddy jake had this exact thing happen with his garage last year. He patched like 8 holes from old shelving, painted right over them with some cheap Behr, and within two months every single patch bubbled up like someone had sneezed underneath the paint. His dad came over, took one look, and just laughed while handing him a quart of primer. Jake said he spent the whole weekend scraping, sanding, and starting over with that Zinsser primer his old man swore by. Now he primes every patch immediately, even the tiny nail holes, lmao.

Yup been there, Zinsser's the only thing that actually works.
