Flip-flopped on using paintable caulk for baseboards
I always figured any old caulk would do, but my buddy insisted I try DAP Dynaflex 230 for the gaps in my living room trim. After 6 months in this humid Houston weather, not a single crack formed while the cheap stuff I used in the bedroom is already pulling apart. Has anyone else found a brand that actually holds up long-term?

susanm22, you said "silicone-based blend" and honestly that might be the move for Houston since the paintable stuff is water-based. I've had better luck just using regular silicone caulk around windows and painting over it with a good primer first, even if it takes more steps. Have you tried that trick or does it peel on you too?

I remember my buddy swearing by that same DAP stuff, he used it on his kitchen backsplash in Florida and it's been solid for almost two years now. I took a gamble on a cheaper brand for my bathroom and it's already cracking around the tub, lesson learned I guess. The humidity down here just kills anything that isn't heavy duty, so I'm thinking about switching to a silicone-based blend for the rest of the house. It's a pain to work with but seems like the only thing that lasts long term in this climate.
