Built a raised garden bed last spring and the wood started rotting by fall

I used untreated pine from my local lumberyard in Austin and thought the waterproof sealant I slapped on would hold up. By September the bottom boards were soft and crumbly from all the rain we got. Had to tear the whole thing apart and rebuild with cedar, which cost me $120 more but it feels solid now. Anyone else ever cut corners on wood type and regret it later?

oh man, that sucks i feel your pain. i did the same thing with some cheap fence boards for a little planter box and it was mushy by the end of summer. cedar is definitely the way to go, even if it hurts the wallet up front.

Learned that lesson the hard way too, guess I'm not the only one who likes burning money on mistakes.
