Tried a plain black background for my neon art instead of a gradient and the glow popped way more instantly

It took me like 30 minutes of messing with gradients on a light blue backdrop before I just swapped to straight #000000 and suddenly my whole piece looked like it was actually lit up, has anyone else found a quick background swap made a huge difference?

Flipping to absolute black fixed the same problem for me on a cyberpunk sign piece. It's like the darkness gives the glow room to breathe instead of competing with the background.

Flipping to absolute black sounds like a crutch to me honestly. All that does is remove any visual texture or depth that could make the piece feel more real and layered. A good glow effect should hold its own against a dark gray or subtle background without needing pitch black to prop it up.

idk @josephf10, feels like y'all are overthinking glow effects.
