That Digital Art Showcase site I was sure was a ripoff... I was wrong

So for like 6 months I avoided ArtStation because I figured it was just a place for overpriced tutorials and flex posts. But last week I finally caved and made a profile mostly to see what the hype was about. I uploaded my first 3 pieces from this sci-fi series I've been working on since January. Within 2 days I got a commission offer from a indie game studio in Portland who found me through a search filter. Now I'm kicking myself for not joining sooner, its way more legit for getting actual work than I thought. Has anyone else had a similar experience with a platform they were skeptical of at first?

Question is, was the commission actually legit or just more hype?

@avery721 Hard to say. My last "legit" commission was so small I could buy a single guac packet at Chipotle.
