Procreate crashed during a 6 hour portrait commission - should I save more often or trust autosave?

I was at a coffee shop in Portland working on a digital portrait for a client who paid $200 upfront. About 5 hours in, Procreate suddenly froze and then just closed itself. I reopened it expecting the autosave to have everything but it only had layers from the first 20 minutes. Ended up redoing the whole thing from scratch in 3 hours and the client never knew, but now I'm paranoid about saving every 10 minutes. Does anyone else manually save as PSD every 30 minutes even if the app says it autosaves?

I completely get that paranoid feeling. That autosave in Procreate is a liar honestly, it only saves if you close the app normally not if it crashes. I started setting a timer on my phone for every 10 minutes and tap that manual save button like my life depends on it, especially after losing a whole morning of linework once. Also you can turn on the auto backup to iCloud or Dropbox in settings so at least you have a separate copy somewhere else.

Remember you can also force quit the app every once in a while when you have a second. If you swipe up and close Proactive completely, it forces that manual save process to trigger because the app thinks you closed it properly. I do this every 15 minutes or so when I remember, especially on big files that are more likely to crash. It sounds annoying but it becomes a habit after a while and saves a lot of heartache. Better to lose 30 seconds than 3 hours of work.
