Made a digital matte painting based on a trip to the Salton Sea
I visited the Salton Sea last month and the abandoned structures there gave me a weird moody atmosphere idea. Spent about 8 hours layering textures and light leaks in Photoshop to capture that crumbling desert vibe. Has anyone else tried using real location photos as a base for a fantasy scene?

Whoa, pretty sure the Salton Sea is actually a lake not a sea.

@nathang67 calling it a lake doesn't really change the creep factor though, haha. Did you use any specific texture packs for the peeling paint look on those buildings, or was it all from your own photo layers? I've been trying to get that kind of gritty decay right in my own stuff and it's way harder than it looks.
