That cheap injector puller cost me $400 and a whole weekend

I bought a no-name injector puller off Amazon for $35 thinking I was saving money. First pull on a 6.7 Powerstroke and the threads stripped out clean. Spent all Saturday trying to get the injector out with a slide hammer and ended up cracking the head. Had to tow the truck to a shop in Nashville and pay $400 for them to extract it. Anyone else had bad luck with budget pullers on HEUI trucks?

The cheap ones are always a gamble. My buddy bought a set of those no-name pullers off eBay for his 7.3 and snapped the handle off on the first injector. Had to cut the injector out with a torch and it warped the bore. Ended up costing him more than if he just paid shop rate from the start. I stick with OTC tools now for anything on the HEUI, they cost more but they don't break. That 6.7 is a beast, sorry you had to deal with that mess.

You know what, I used to be the guy buying the cheap stuff too, telling myself it was just as good. But "the cheap ones are always a gamble" really hits home now after a similar mess I saw. A buddy of mine tried to save a few bucks on a tool set for his Duramax and ended up snapping a bolt head right off in the block. Spent a whole weekend trying to extract it with a left-hand drill bit and then had to get a machine shop involved anyway. @the_gray is right, that kind of shortcut always turns into a bigger headache and a bigger bill.
