Swapped from a manual timing set to an automatic one 8 years ago
Back in 2016 I was doing a rebuild on a 5.9 Cummins in my shop outside Denver. I had to choose between a manual gear drive kit and an auto hydraulic timing setup. I went with the auto because I was tired of messing with shims and dial indicators on every job. That motor ran quieter and held timing way better at high RPM than any gear drive I'd done before. Anyone else made the switch and stuck with it?

Wait, 8 years ago with no issues? That auto setup on a 5.9 must be bulletproof cause I've heard nothing but horror stories about them slipping under load.

Nah the 5.9 autos were fine, it's the later 6.7s that had the real problems.
