PSA: You can't just crank down the V-band clamp on a turbo to stop an exhaust leak.

I saw a guy at the shop in Boise try to fix a 6.7 Powerstroke leak by reefing on it with a 3/4-inch impact, and he cracked the housing. Has anyone found a good trick for checking flange flatness before you bolt it all back together?

Oh man, that's the "more ugga-duggas" school of thought. Guess he found out the hard way it's not a torque-to-yield fastener.

That Boise guy must have thought his impact was a magic wand. I learned the hard way too, warped a flange on my old Duramax. @the_holly has the right idea with the straight edge check.

Try using a straight edge and a feeler gauge to spot any warping first.
