My neighbor's kid asked why we don't just fix the old trucks forever
He's 14, helping me pull an injector on my '97 F-250. He looked at the new control module I had to order and said, 'Seems like they make them to break now.' I told him about planned obsolescence and EPA rules, the usual shop talk. But him just saying it out loud, about a truck he likes, hit different. Made me wonder if we're just trained to accept it. How do you guys explain the move to 'disposable' parts to someone just getting into this?

A buddy had to replace a whole headlight assembly on his car because one tiny plastic clip broke. The dealer said the part only comes as one piece now.

Ugh, that's the worst. It feels like everything is made to be thrown away now. My old TV remote had a broken battery door, and the company said I had to buy a whole new remote. Same with a game controller, a tiny spring goes and it's just trash. They design things so a simple fix is impossible.

Just tape the battery door shut like the rest of us normal people do, lol. It's wild how they make you buy a whole new remote for a piece of plastic that costs a penny to make. Next they'll tell us to buy a new phone because the charging port dust cover fell off.
